Micheal Brent Herbert

November 2, 1944 — October 8, 2017

Micheal Brent Herbert died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, in American Fork, Utah. He courageously fought a ten-year battle with Alzheimer's. Mike enjoyed living in the moment and his wit, charm, and zest for life will be missed by all who knew him. Mike entered this world in adventurous style. He was born in the back of a police car on Nov. 2, 1944, in Provo, Utah, where he was raised by his amazing parents, William and Eileen Distefano. Mike was the fourth of eight children. He enjoyed spending time with his family in the mountains of Tabiona, Utah. Mike attended Provo High School. He first saw the love of his life, Janna Dee Graham, in the high school parking lot. In that moment he said, She's the girl for me. Mike and Jan were true sweethearts and were married on June 4, 1965, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Upon graduation from Provo High in 1963, Mike served one year in the U.S. Army and continued to serve in the Army National Guard for eight years. Mike and Jan lived in Provo, Springville, and Taylorsville. They were blessed to make lifelong friends wherever they lived. Mike was an amazing father. He and Jan were parents to four wonderful children Stacy, Holly, Brett and Robyn- all of whom he was so proud of and loved with much respect and admiration. Mike was a faithful member of the LDS Church and received a degree from Brigham Young University in Business Administration. His career led him to be an executive in the JCPenney Company. Mike had multiple opportunities to work with Connectronix, Alpine Air, taught Business Management classes at SLCC, and played Santa Claus. He was a loyal fan cheering for his BYU Cougars, LA Dodgers, and, recently, his Colorado Rockies. He loved John Wayne, hunting in Tabiona, and spending time at their cabin in Wildwood. Mike had a huge heart! He was capable of loving everyone he met and was true to his word. Mike is having a joyous reunion with and preceded in death by his wife, Jan; daughter, Stacy (Breck) Sheffield; siblings, Bob Herbert, and Maryem (Barry) Fett.
