Curley Cleveland Jones passed away March 3, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born February 23, 1941 in Rossville, Tennessee to the late Mr. Cleve Jones and Mrs. Susie Palmer Jones. He professed a hope in Christ at age 1 and united with Stinson Chapel Christian Methodist Church in Rossville, TN where he attended elementary school, then Fayette County Training High School in Somerville, TN; graduating from Mount Pisgah High School June 1, 1960. He attended Saints Jr. College, Lexington, MI graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in 1965. Then attended Tougaloo College, Tougaloo, MI and graduated with a Bachelor of History degree, June 1, 1969. He was a teacher's intern in urban education, Rochester, NY, 1969-71. Received the Master of Library Science from the State University College at Geneseo, August 1971. Received a Master of Education Degree from the University of Utah in 1975 and the certificate of Advanced Study in Librarianship from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, IL. Curley came to Salt Lake City in 1972 and worked as a librarian at the University of Utah Marriott Library, retiring June 30, 2011 after 39 years and three months. He united with Calvary Baptist Church in 1974 under the leadership of Reverend France A. Davis and served as General Church Superintendent for 33 years, president of the Intermountain Laymen Auxiliary; vice president of the Congress of Christian Education, National Baptist Laymen Convention, Laymen Banquet Committee in 1985. He attended state and regional conventions and workshops. He was a Golden Heritage life member of the Salt Lake branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Member of The Masonics, High Marine Lodge #12. Brother Jones traveled to Africa, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Europe, Norway, Scotland, South Africa and South Korea. He leaves to mourn his passing 10 sisters: Mrs. Rosie Mae (Robert) Martin, Chicago, IL; Ms. Everlena Jones, Layton, UT; Mrs. Mattie Tipton, Memphis, TN; Mrs. Valcenia Henderson, Atlanta, GA; Mrs. Bunnie (Fred) Fields, Memphis, TN; Dr. Brinders (Myron) Johnson, Cordova, TN; Ms. Mary Walker and Marlene Walker, Memphis, TN; Shirley Walker, Boston, MA; Mrs. Gloria (Floyd) Williamson, Memphis, TN; brothers: Elder Willie Louis (Betty) Holman, Chicago, IL; Mr. Ivan (Elaine) Jones, Rossville, TN; Elder Amos (Ruth) and George W. (Eliza) Jones, Memphis, TN; nephews he helped raise: Mr. Samuel Lee (Shauna) Johnson, Jr., Jamie (Carson) Jones; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 12:00 noon at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1090 South State Street where a viewing will be held, 10 am 12:00 noon.
