Friend to All Dennis Leland Banks, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away July 16, 2015, at age 73, in Salt Lake City, Utah. After surviving Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for 15 years, he battled a recurrence of cancer for 46 days before passing. He is free from pain. Dennis was born April 15, 1942 in East Los Angeles, California, to Charles Winslow Banks and Norma Rowley Banks. He attended Salt Lake City schools and was a proud graduate of West High School, where he formed lifetime friendships. Following an LDS mission in the Northwestern States, Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Catherine (Cathy) Bowden, on August 15, 1963 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was employed by and retired from Union Pacific Railroad, living every boy's dream to be a locomotive engineer. He worked hard and taught his children to do the same. Dennis served faithfully in church callings such as home teacher, bishopric counselor, high counselor, and missionary with Cathy in the Salt Lake Inner City Mission, Ensign Stake. He treasured singing in the choir every Christmas. Dennis loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also loved Disneyland, Halloween, trains, baseball, watching his grandchildren share their talents, travel, temple worship, candy, music, cars, and TV. Dennis was a friend to all. Many thanks to the St. Mark's Hospital 3 West staff for their thoughtful care. He is survived by his sweetheart Cathy, daughter Christine Allred (Brian); sons Douglas (Julie), Michael (Julie), Dave (Diana), and Paul (Amy); and 17 grandchildren. Also survived by brother Norm (Micki); and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law Patricia Hollinger and Bonnie Dexter; favorite Uncle Keith Rowley and dear friend Steve Noyce. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 12 noon at the LDS church at 4310 South 3200 West, West Valley City, Utah. Friends and family may visit Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Thursday morning one hour prior to services at the church.
