Gilbert P Searle

October 1, 1922 — February 14, 2016

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully Sunday, February 14, 2016, in the Stonehenge Rehab Center. He was born October 1, 1922, to Asa Lyman Searle and Eleanor Amanda Peasnall in Tooele, Utah. He served in the Tank Corp 3rd Army during WWII under General Patton and at the Battle of the Bulge. On September 13, 1946, he married his sweetheart, Joyce Bell, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Shortly after marriage they moved to Logan where he graduated from Utah State University in Civil Engineering. They were blessed with six children, Eileen (Lewis) Squires, Kathleen (John) Western, Fred (Karen) Searle, Sheri (Daniel) Winona, Paul (Kristene) Searle, and Eleanor (Warren) Broadbent; 27 grandchildren including 21 granddaughters and six grandsons; and 58 great-grandchildren with three more coming. Soon after graduating, they moved to Colorado and worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service as a civil engineer specializing in water management. They lived in Colorado for five years then returned to Utah, working on many projects throughout Utah. When he retired he was the Assistant State Engineer for the SCS. After he retired, Gilbert and Joyce worked for Harza Engineering in Egypt and Pakistan. He will be remembered for his faithful service in the LDS Church as a leader in many organizations. He loved road trips and exploring the geology of the land. He was greatly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We are greatly blessed to have had him in our lives for so many years and now know he is with loved ones who passed before him.
