A Hans Olsen, 79, passed away November 26, 2018 at home being cared for by those he cherished most in his life, his family.
Born June 15, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The son of Kenneth Hans and Larue B. Olsen. Brother of Joyce Sprouse and Mary Lynda Fugal. Hans served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his beloved Norway, a country that he held dear in his heart for the rest of his life! While serving in Norway he met his future wife while she was visiting her grandparents. After his return, he married Marion Irene Ingebrigtsen on June 11, 1963 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they settled and raised their family West Valley City, Utah.
Hans was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with them and talking to others about his family. He was always there if they needed advice in life or assistance in any home improvement project. A valued educator for 35 years in the Granite School District, he started out as a History, Sociology teacher and football coach. As he spent more time with the students, he then became a high school counselor and assistant principal. Upon retirement he was the Director of Student Services. Although he spent his career in education his true love was woodworking. Self-taught, he could take on any project and build anything from a picture frame to a full entertainment center. Everyone will treasure the many gifts and projects he made in his shop with loving care.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was an example to his family but known for his mastery of the scriptures. When adding up all the time he taught, Hans spent in service 47 years as a gospel doctrine teacher. When he taught, he made it easy to understand the scriptures and his love of the Lord was evident in his lessons.
Hans is survived by his wife of 55 ½ years, Marion; and his children Robyn (Randall) Furlow, Stephanie, Becky Pirillo and Kenny. He loved them and his lessons shared with them were many but the most important one he taught them was to be friends and depend on each other in life… for life! His other great loves in his life were his 6 grandchildren. On the day each of them was born, he held them close and promised them that “grandpa will give them anything they want!”.
Preceded in death by his parents Ken and LaRue and two infant daughters, Kari and Christina.
The family would like to thank Julie and Charlotte with Quality Home Health & Hospice for their support and care given to Hans and his family.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 30, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Jordan North 6th Ward, 3836 West 4100 South. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, November 29 from 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral services.
