Adelaide Middlemas passed away peacefully in her home September 29, 2022, at the age of 99.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. October 7, 2022, at First United Methodist Church; 203 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Viewing will be one hour prior to services, 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow services at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
She was born November 20, 1922, in Kingsville, Texas to Paul and Anna Trost. Adelaide was the third of four children. She spent an idyllic childhood in Kingsville, and attended college at Texas A & M. She helped the war effort by working as a secretary for the Naval Department in Corpus Christie, Texas where she met the love of her life, Robert Verle Middlemas, a young Marine. Adelaide and Robert were married October 7, 1945, in Kingsville, Texas.
After their marriage they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, Robert's hometown, where Adelaide adapted to Utah winters, and made lifelong friends. Adelaide and Robert welcomed three children and settled into their forever home in Granger (now West Valley), Utah where Adelaide developed close bonds with her neighbors. She spent many years working as a school secretary at Hillsdale Elementary and later at Arcadia Elementary, where she touched the lives of countless children and colleagues who received her kindness and compassion.
After Adelaide and Bob retired, they traveled the world from East to West, including a traditional Irish ceremony to renew their wedding vows. They enjoyed weekly square dancing with friends. They shared a strong bond of love and unity until they were separated by Robert's death after 69 years of marriage.
She will be remembered for her needlepoint expertise, and her amazing skills as cook and seamstress, but mostly for the kindness and compassion she gave to everyone she knew.
Adelaide is preceded in death by her devoted husband Robert; as well as her brothers Warren Trost and Wallace Trost.
She is survived by her son Michael Middlemas (Nancy); her daughters Ann Daniels (Rich) and Kay Gardner (Jack); six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; her sister Myra Wheeler (Joe); and several nieces and nephews.
