Alba Azucena Ray

Alba Azucena Ray, 39, passed away peacefully at her home on December 16, 2021, surrounded by her beloved family, following a two-year long battle with gastric cancer. Azucena was born to Elvia Garcia and Noel Ventura in Santa Rosa de Lima, El Salvador on June 21, 1982.

In 2004, she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Puerto Rico where she met fellow missionary and her future husband, Nathan Ray. Azucena and Nathan were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 31, 2009 and sealed for time and all eternity. Together they had three beautiful boys: Michael (7), Matthew (7), and Lucas (3). Azucena had many occupations and talents, but her greatest joy was serving her family and others. Her selflessness and devotion were the hallmarks of her life. She treasured nothing more than being a mother to her sweet children and gave them enough love in their short years together to last a lifetime. Azucena will be remembered for her sweet smile, bubbly personality, infectious laugh, love of music, fashion and the outdoors, and loving kindness toward others. She especially loved to care for and serve children and the elderly and was known for seeking out those who were most in need of her love. Ever the disciple, Azucena’s valiant refrain during her battle with cancer was, in the words of the hymn, "I’ll go where you want me to go, dear Lord. I’ll be what you want me to be." 

Azucena is survived by her husband Nathan; children Michael Nathan Ray, Matthew Thomas Ray, and Lucas Josue Ray; mother Elvia Garcia; father Noel Ventura (Milagro); siblings Walter Ventura, Melisa Vasquez (Oswaldo) and Roberto Ventura; Grandmother Maria de la Paz Marroquin, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends.

Funeral services for our dear Azucena will be held on Wednesday, December 22^nd at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse located at 9376 South 4000 West in West Jordan. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, December 21^st from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 S Redwood Road in Taylorsville and on Wednesday, December 22^nd at 10:00 am at the meetinghouse mentioned above. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park located at 4335 W 4100 S in West Valley City.

Alba Azucena Ray, 39, falleció en paz en su hogar el 16 de diciembre de 2021 rodeada de su querida familia después de una batalla de dos años contra cáncer gástrico. Azucena nació el 21 de junio 1982 en Santa Rosa de Lima, El Salvador, a padres Elvia Garcia y Noel Ventura. En el 2004, ella sirvió una misión para la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días en Puerto Rico, donde conoció a otro misionero llamado Nathan Ray, quien llegaría a ser su esposo. Azucena y Nathan se casaron en el Templo de Salt Lake el 31 de julio de 2009 y se sellaron por tiempo y eternidad. Juntos tuvieron tres niños hermosos: Michael (7), Matthew (7), y Lucas (3). Azucena tuvo muchas ocupaciones y talentos, pero encontró su mayor gozo sirviendo a su familia y a otros. Nada fue más importante para ella que ser madre para sus tres príncipes, y les entregó suficiente amor en los pocos años que tuvieron juntos para durar una vida completa. Azucena será recordada por su dulce sonrisa, personalidad efervescente, risa contagiosa, amor a la música, estilo, y la naturaleza, y amor hacia los demás. Ella sentía un amor especial por el servicio a los niños y ancianos y fue conocida por auxiliar al más necesitado. Como buen discípulo, su refrán favorito durante su batalla contra el cáncer fue “a donde me mandes iré, Señor. Y lo que tu quieras sere.” 

El legado de Azucena es su querida familia, quien incluye a su esposo Nathan; hijos Michael Nathan Ray, Matthew Thomas Ray, y Lucas Josue Ray; madre Elvia Garcia; padre Noel Ventura (Milagro); hermanos Walter Ventura, Melisa Vasquez (Oswaldo) y Roberto Ventura; abuela Maria de la Paz Marroquin, y muchos tíos, primos, cuñados, sobrinos, y muchos amigos cercanos. 

Los servicios fúnebres para nuestra querida Azucena se llevarán a cabo el miércoles 22 de diciembre a las 11:00 am en la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días ubicada en 9376 S 4000 W en West Jordan. Los velorios serán el martes, 21 de diciembre de 6:00 a 8:00 pm en McDougal Funeral Home ubicado en 4330 S Redwood Rd en Taylorsville y también el miércoles, 22 de diciembre a las 10:00 am en la iglesia mencionada arriba. El entierro se llevará a cabo en Valley View Memorial Park ubicado en 4335 W 4100 S en West Valley City.
