Alyce "Chooch" Stauzy Valandry Redwin

July 7, 1924 — November 2, 2016

Alyce "Chooch" Stauzy Valandry Redwin, 92, of Kearns, UT passed away November 2, 2016. Born July 7th, 1924 in Martin, South Dakota to Paul & Eleanor Valandry. Married Francis Paul Redwin. Preceded in death by parents, husband and her siblings, Pauline Gardner, Paul "Cotton" Valandry, Lawrence "Spot" Valandry and daughter Carmen Alyce Redwin Potter. Survived by (Jeffrey L. Potter), brother Richard Valandry, grandchildren Jeffrey L. Potter II "Sonny" (Carol K. Potter), Cari L. Potter, great granddaughters Alyssa Lillian Potter and Veronica Amelia Potter. Alyce graduated nursing school on scholarship at St. Mary's nursing school to become a cadet nurse. The Navy wanted a Native American to christen the USS Nomad in San Diego, CA. Out of many other students at school Alyce was chosen for the honor. She was a registered member of the Sioux Nation. She worked for numerous hospitals and doctors around the country. Later she turned to home health care, where she stayed until she retired after the passing of her patient and dear friend Leslie Downing. She was an avid traveler! Always taking one week to a month long vacations to see her siblings out of state or traveling back to South Dakota for family reunions, and taking one of her grandkids with her if she could. Later if someone would take her on a trip she was ready to go "I just don't want to sit on my butt". You could always catch her reading a book, Reader's Digest or just anything that interested her. She loved her rose bushes and even brought one to her home from South Dakota! You could always catch her watering and taking care of her roses. Especially her mother's rose bush which was her prize plant. She was loved by everyone! She always had family or friends coming and going. Sending her letters, presents or calling her on the phone regularly to keep in touch with her. She really enjoyed her nieces and nephews. They would call her often and she would look forward to each and every conversation. She would introduce family members to relatives we didn't even know we had, whom she had stayed in touch with. We're all going to have to make an effort to stay in touch without her there for us. Alyce will be missed dearly!!!
