Anita Lucille Mattson

Anita Lucille Mattson, 96, passed away March 1, 2014 in West Valley City, Utah. Born January 13, 1918 in Floodwood, Minnesota, daughter of Hjalmer and Hilja Maria Johnson Laurie. She attended Ishpeming High School and BYU Nursing prerequisites. Married Albert John Mattson June 12, 1937 in Ishpeming, Michigan and were married for 72 years; he preceded her in death April 2, 2009. Mom enjoyed writing letters and poetry, art, crocheting, cooking, baking, sewing, reading and word games, especially Scrabble. She speaks Finnish and is proud of her Finnish heritage. Survived by children: Roger (Karen) Mattson, Duluth, MN; Paul (Dorothy) Mattson, Bridgeport, MI; Miles (Nancy) Mattson, Marquette, MI; Dean Mattson, West Valley City, UT; Karen (Bob) MacArt, Sandy, UT; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Also preceded in death by brothers Armas Hamari and Armond Laurie; and parents. Special thanks to Dean Mattson, whose loving care and devotion to Mom and Dad leave us all eternally grateful for his presence in our lives. Also thanks to Ed and Judie Ellingson, Isabella Campos, Pastor Jeffrey Louden, Mary and Phil Rollins, Esther Barrett, St. Matthews Lutheran Church family, Garden Terrace, Angels Crossing Hospice Care and U of U Stroke Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014, 12:00 noon at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 5200 South 2700 West where a viewing will be held one hour prior to services.
