Anna Mae “Anne” Martin died November 29, 2019 at Jordan Valley Hospital, 2 days before her 81st birthday. Anna Mae was born at home December 1, 1938 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah to James Andrew and Viola Paice Martin. She was named after her maternal grandmother but preferred to be called Anne.
She attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School, in 1956. She worked various jobs in Ogden and then moved to Salt Lake City. Later she moved to Nampa, Idaho and while there she returned to school and received her RN degree.
She moved back to Salt Lake City in about 1978 and continued to work as an RN in various facilities including the Golden Manor Nursing Home, Pioneer Valley Hospital, University of Utah Medical Center, home health, and at FHP Greenwood Center. While at FHP she certified as a nurse oncologist and worked in the Oncology Department. In 1988, she helped establish a support group called “The Achievers” for patients of the clinic with cancer. She received great satisfaction working with the patients, frequently making home visits on her own time.
In 1994 Anne moved to her home in Taylorsville located next to Brent and Debbie Van Wagoner. She considered it “divine intervention” to live next to them and they loved and treated her as part of their own family. She became active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed the many friends she met in her ward and her participation there.
After retirement, she was involved in the Taylorsville Senior Center, where she used her nursing skills to take blood pressures and blood sugar readings for years. She also developed and taught a class on grief. Later she was elected Treasurer of the Senior Center, a position she had until the time of her death.
She is survived by her brother, Clemence H. (Kathy) Martin; and sisters, Shirley (John) Strader, and Sheryl Martin; 2 nephews; and 4 nieces. Preceded in death by her mother; father; and nephew. She will be missed by the many friends who she has served and that have served and loved her.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 9:30 – 10:30 followed by a funeral at 11:00 am at Taylorsville Utah Valley Park 6th Ward, 5233 South 3200 West, Taylorsville, Utah 84129. Burial will be at the West Point City Cemetery, West Point, Utah.
