Our sweet mom, grammie and great grammie has reached her final goal and valiantly endured to the end of her earthly life. She passed away Thursday December 3, 2015 in West Valley City, Utah. Arlene Lorraine Towne was born on July 4, 1939 in Los Angeles California to Curtis and Donna Towne. She had a brother Bill who was 6 years older than her. She married Richard Smith and they had three children; Rick, Shelly & Stacy. They later divorced. She raised her family in Long Beach CA. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was in her mid- twenties and has enjoyed raising her children in the gospel. She has served in many church callings, having a special attachment to the youth organizations. She was known as the cool mom in our teenage years. You would often find her on a Friday night running a car full of teenagers around to" Toilet Paper" someone's house or hosting an impromptu slumber party. These were all things she never got to do in her own childhood. She wanted her kids to have it better than she did. She attended Long Beach City College while her kids were in high school, studying Early Childhood Development. She relocated to Utah in 1980 with her two daughters. Her last job before becoming disabled was for American Express. It was a job she loved and she made lifelong friends. Grammie was thrilled to become a grandma and loved having one on one time with her grandkids. She would spoil them with weekend adventures of crafts and Happy Meals. She supported them in all their activities and got to know most of their friends. Her greatest joy was her family. In her later years she spent countless hours doing genealogy. Most of her research is written out by hand because she never did get comfortable with the computer. She would say," I can find stuff but can't get it out". She had beautiful penmanship! She is survived by her son Richard (Dawn) Towne; daughter Shelly (Mike) Isom, daughter Stacy Smith Seattle, WA; five grandchildren she adored: Kimber, Kevin, Kalli, Katie & Chad; and five great-grandchildren: Bridget, Carter, Gaven, Price and Piper; as well as her sister-in-law Margie Towne Tualatin, OR. Her family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Rocky Mountain Hunters Hallow Care Center for the patience, kindness and love they showed towards Arlene during her time there. A viewing will be held Sunday night from 6-8 in the evening at McDougal's Funeral Home 4330 South Redwood Road Taylorsville, UT. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 Monday December 7, 2015 at Lake Hills Memorial 10055 So. State St., Sandy, UT. Friends and family are all welcome to attend.
