Arthur Lowell Sorensen "On Another Mission" Arthur Lowell Sorensen, our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered a new chapter in his life October 28, 2013. He will be sorely missed but has laid aside a tired body diminished by Parkinson's disease Lowell was born February 13, 1928 in Murray, Utah to Arthur H. Sorensen and Gladys P. Boam. He attended Granite High School where he met his eternal sweetheart, June Pendleton. They were married March 2, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Lowell attended the University of Utah before serving a mission to the Central States. He and June served together in six missions including Vera Cruz, Mexico; Dallas, Texas; Ruskin, Florida and Bogota, Colombia and have served in five LDS Temples. Lowell also served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church, including Bishop, in the Stake Presidency and various other ward and stake positions, among which was a favorite, as Scout Master, where he earned the Wood Badge certificate and Silver Beaver Award. He and his family were privileged to attend the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for one week of memorable activities. Another favorite memory was participating in the Hill Cumorah Pageant taking the part of Mormon. He was employed by Hercules in quality assurance from which he retired after 29 years. Lowell enjoyed many hobbies, especially carpentry, resulting in hand-crafted gifts for family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing with his family. He and his sons, with the combined efforts from all the family, built a family cabin which they enjoy to this day. Lowell will be remembered by a large posterity, including his wife, June, of 63 years; sister, Bonnie Rae Larson; 6 children: Jeffrey Lowell (Judy), Valancy Lee (deceased) her husband, Keary (Samra), Kim Meredith (Jan), Melanie Jean (Deon), Jonathan Paul (Lori), Brian Rhead (Kathleen) and Lamanite foster daughter, Yvonne Lamy, Zuni, New Mexico; 37 grandchildren (2 deceased); 46 great-grand's (1 deceased); 3 foster grand's; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Thanks to wonderful family support and the great staff at Aspire Hospice, Lowell was able to pass peacefully at home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at the Parkway 4th Ward Chapel, 9625 South 3400 West. Viewings will be held Friday, November 1, 2013, 6-8:30 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the missionary fund.
