Audrey C. Riddle, 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday 6 November in her home in the company of her children, grand children, and her beloved husband, Todd. Audrey was diagnosed with cancer on 8 October. Through her 1 month trial, she consistently spread cheer, hope, and love with care givers, visitors, family, and friends. She was a natural and caring teacher with a passion for preserving family history. We will all miss her. Audrey was born 15 April 1931 in Ephraim, Utah to Roscoe C. and Armada B. Cox. She loved growing up in small town America, with extended family. In July 1939, her parents accepted a call to serve as Mission Presidents in the Hawaiian Islands Mission of the LDS church. For the next three years, Audrey, her parents, and older brother LaVaun and infant brother Wesley lived in the then Territory of Hawaii. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 changed life for Audrey significantly. Still an adventure, her tropical wonderland of hula and leis was replaced by rationing, blackouts, and gas masks. The Cox family returned to Utah in July 1942. Audrey was selected as her High School Valedictorian and went on the attend Snow College, BYU, and later in life, to earn a graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. She married R.F. Perkins in 1953; they had 4 children: Lani, Fred, Randy, and Scott. Audrey was divorced in 1968 and expertly raised all four children herself. She supported her family working as a licensed social worker, specializing in the assistance of unwed mothers and child placement and adoptions. She was known and appreciated by coworkers and clients alike for her open heart, keen mind, and going the extra mile to help a soul in need. In retirement, Audrey continued to practice her passion and training, performing volunteer counseling and participating in DUP. In a classical storybook love story, Audrey was sought out in mid life by Todd Riddle, a wonderful beau from her youth, and the two were married in 1986. Together, they traveled the length and width of the intermountain west. Multiple trips to Europe and the Mediterranean were highlights of their travels together. Todd became the best father Audrey's children could have asked for. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, older brother, and a grandson, Jon. She is survived by her husband Todd (South Jordan, UT); children Lani (Pat Sweeney), Park City, Fred (Sheri,) Brigham City, Randy (Jiji,) Salt Lake City, Scott (Robert Sutton), Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. An intimate Memorial service will be held Saturday, 16 November, 10:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road.
