Benjamin Christian Dieterle, age 56, died on April 3, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born October 28, 1967, in Fort McClellan, Alabama. He was raised in Georgia and attended Dunwoody High School. During that time, he played on the football and wrestling teams. He also signed up for the German exchange student program and lived with a family in Germany for a month.
Ben served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1987-1989) in Stockholm, Sweden. He attended Brigham Young University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications-Journalism. During his senior year, he studied Near Eastern Studies at BYU-Jerusalem.
Ben began a career in broadcast/print journalism with Salt Lake City Weekly, News4Utah, and Eyewitness News. He also worked in public relations for Intermountain Donor Services (Donor Connect). During this time, he was awarded recognition for several articles. Later, he managed a team for the same company that assisted in transporting donated organs.
Ben was very creative and was always working on a new idea. These creative works were in writing, composing, photography, painting, and poetry. He will always be known for his love for playing the Hang. He composed and recorded an album titled, "Red Hang Rising" that was distributed to yoga studios.
Ben developed a strong interest in the importance of pet adoption and loved to care for his cat, Zanny. This experience led to him pursuing his long interest in writing and he published a picture book featuring pictures of his cat with clever captions.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Lorraine Dieterle, Draper; Claire Elizabeth Dieterle, Taylorsville; and Charlotte Dieterle Hatch, Draper; his brother-in-law, William Victor Hatch, Draper; nephew, Kevin William Hatch, Orem; and nieces, Elizabeth McKenzie Hatch, Draper, and Caroline Hatch Montierth (Jared), Provo. He was preceded in death by his parents, John H and Diane Shutley Dieterle; and brother, John H Dieterle, Jr.
There will be a Memorial Service hosted by friends and neighbors on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 4:00-6:00pm and a Funeral Service hosted by his family on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 11:00am at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Interment will be at the Highland City Cemetery.
