Bernard Delworth Major Maj Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bernard Delworth Major, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2012 at the age of 92 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born October 1, 1919 in Moroni, Sanpete County, Utah to Vincen Henry and Mattie Agatha Nielsen Major. The family moved to Spring City, Utah when Bernard was in his early teens and lived in the family home that was built in 1875 by his grandfather. He married his eternal sweetheart, Eva Hollingshaus, on March 25, 1941 in the Manti Temple. They just celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Bernard did not want to leave his sweetheart, but his weak body would not let him stay any longer. Bernard and Eva were blessed with six wonderful children and their spouses, 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren with one more on the way (due in June). It was always a houseful at Christmas time. He served his country in the Navy from 1945-1946 stationed in Guam. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in several church callings. Bernard enjoyed serving the ward members as their bishop for 13 years in the Pioneer Stake and later served as a temple worker. He retired from ZCMI after 40 years where he was employed as a carpenter supervisor. Bernard was a loving, kind and gentle man. He had much joy and happiness being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed going back to his beautiful Spring City home each summer after he retired. It gave him much peace and pleasure just being there and working to keep the house and acreage looking nice. He liked going fishing with his wife at Scofield Lake and when she was not able to go, he enjoyed fishing with his sons. Bernard is survived by his loving and attentive wife, Eva; daughter, Ardith (Craig) Miller; sons, Ronald (Peggy), Bruce(Jan), Michael (Janet, deceased, later remarried & divorced); daughter-in-law, Jill Major and all the special grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Alois Major; daughter, Pamela Rae Major Crowder; son-in-law, Donald Le Ray Crowder; great-grandsons, Kendall Willard Rogers and Kadin Alan Rogers. The family would like to thank Martha, Luis and the staff at Emeritus Care Center and a special thanks to Emily Hodson, RN, Carlos, Juan, and the staff at Millcreek Home Health and Hospice for their great care, dignity and respect while helping Bernard.
