Bette Ann Ward Howick

February 18, 1926 — June 6, 2011

Bette Ann Ward Howick Genuinely Compassionate Bette Ann Ward Howick peacefully passed away, from natural causes, on June 6, 2011 surrounded by her children. Born February 18, 1926 to Giles Elledge and Gertrude Viola Haskins Ward in New Canton, IL. Married William Lester Howick Les on August 11, 1948. After joining the LDS Church, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on April 25, 1952. Bette gathered friends like some people gather flowers and befriended everyone. She is known for being a great conversationalist and even better listener. She found great joy in serving with Les in the Florida Tallahassee LDS mission. Bette enjoyed being the Spiritual Living Teacher and Compassionate Service Leader for many years. She faithfully supported her husband in his numerous Priesthood callings. Some of Bette s favorite things are: genealogy, recipes, birthdays, Christmas lights, roses, pretty dinner plates, studying Church History, greeting cards, scenic views, books and being with family. Bette was known for her fabulous cooking and homemade apple and banana cream pies. She is also known for her great knowledge and love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mother was tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic of the striving, and tolerant of the weak. Bette Ann says thank you to Papa Bear for patiently and lovingly caring for her through all the years. Survived by her husband and children: David (Eldie) Howick, Leslee Ann (Vaun) Petersen, and Janet (Spencer) McDougal; grandchildren: Michael (Sarah), Brooke (Chris), Alex, Janaca (Jared), Spencer, Erika, Heidi, Landon; and Ukrainian adopted grandchildren, Shelby, James and William; sisters, Eloise and Awanna. Bette loved being a mother to Les other children: Peggy (IJ) Egbert, Terry (Janice) Howick and Sharen Bennett, and their children: Mike, Jeff, T.J., Julie, Travis, Jenna, Debbie, Karen, Susan, Diane and Raymond. Preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Melvin and Lynette. Thank you to Dr. Doug Romney, who gave extra TLC.
