Betty Short Nicklaus

June 18, 1927 — May 2, 2016

Betty Short Nicklaus, age 88, passed away at her home on May 2, 2016. After a few short stays at the hospital, Betty returned home where she was able to spend her final days with her family and friends. Betty was born on June 18, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Goldie May Allen Short and Frankie Albert Short. After graduating from Ogden High School in 1945, she met the love of her life, Ira G. Nicklaus and they were married on January 19, 1946. After getting married Betty and Ira moved to Colorado and lived on a ranch for a short period of time before returning to Utah, where they raised two sons, James (Valerie Critchlow) and Louis (Sally Badillo). Betty loved working and worked many years for Eimco Mining where she retired in 1980. While working at Eimco she met her dear friend Linda (Randy) Hickman. Betty loved spending time working in her yard, volunteering at Jordan Valley Medical Center, traveling, all animals especially her little dog Mitzi, and fussing over a holiday meal. She loved entertaining family in her home, and the longer you were able to stay and visit with her the better. She was very active in her community and really appreciated the friendship she had with her wonderful neighbors. Betty was very generous and donated to WWII Memorial, Veterans Memorial and Best Friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frankie & Goldie Short; husband Ira G. Nicklaus; sister Margie Short; brothers Darrell (Dot) Short, Dan (Iris) Short, Floyd Short. She is survived by her sons James and Louis; dear friend Linda (Randy & Travis) Hickman; brother Frank Leon Short; sister Jane Mosher; grandchildren, Tina (Frank) Dettery, Laura (Doug) Hogan, Wendy Nicklaus, Tom (PJ) Nicklaus; great-grandchildren, Nicklaus Hogan, Bailee Dettrey, Kate Hogan, Kaci Dettery, Zachary Nicklaus, Cynthia Nicklaus, Luke Hogan, Jackson Nicklaus; and many friends and family. We would like to give special thanks to all the volunteers at Jordan Valley Medical Center and members of the Water Garden Club. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 6th, 12:30 p.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. Place of Birth:Salt Lake City, UtahPlace of Death:Kearns, Utah
