Beverly Pearl Burt Martin

Our beautiful, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Beverly Pearl Burt Martin, graduated from this life on her mother’s birthday, August 4, 2021, and returned to her heavenly home. We know there is a joyous reunion taking place with our Heavenly Father, our Savior, her eternal companion, Glenn, her parents, sisters, and many other family members whom she has loved and missed for so long.

She was born at home in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 14, 1931, to Milton Burt and Pearl Bryant Back. She attended East High School and LDS Business College and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and the gas company. She married her sweetheart, Glenn Irwin Martin, on November 15, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple after he returned home from his mission. He was drafted into the army during the Korean War prior to their marriage, and shortly after left for boot camp in California. She joined him a few months later. When he was deployed to Japan, she returned home to live with her parents until the war ended.

They bought their first home in Kearns in 1954, where they raised their family and made many dear friends. After fifty years, they moved to their condo in West Valley City in October of 2004. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in the Sunday School, Primary, as ward chorister, and finally, -- ward librarian, where she served for many years and took her calling very seriously. She always had a treat for the children who came into the library, and they lovingly called her grandma. She loved to cook and bake, and loved sharing her goodies with her family, neighbors and friends, and ward members. She will always be remembered for her beautiful cupcakes, delicious cinnamon rolls, cookies, peanut brittle, strawberry Jell-O, and cheese balls. Together, she and Dad baked and decorated hundreds of delicious birthday and wedding cakes. You could always find her in someone’s kitchen doing dishes or taking in ironing for family and neighbors.

She was a hard worker--a trait that she taught her children. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy and pleasure was welcoming a new grandbaby and spending time with all of them at baby blessings, baptisms, birthday parties, holiday celebrations, ball games, music and dance recitals, school plays, concerts, graduations, mission farewells and homecomings, and weddings. She was the best grandma. She would make handkerchief dolls, play games, sing songs, and she always had ice cream and cookies. She and Dad made special treat bags for each holiday and delivered them to each of the grandchildren. She always had candy in her purse to share with them and any other children she met. She carried a large purse, filled with everything that she thought someone might need. She always remembered birthdays for family, friends, and ward members, and would always call and sing Happy Birthday to them. She loved sending cards and would always add her own flare to a store-bought card by cutting out words, pictures, and phrases from magazines and pasting them in the cards to personalize them. The grandkids always looked forward to her cards and birthday gifts that were wrapped in very unique ways, and decorated notebooks and pencils, and food gift cards for Christmas. She was stubborn and witty to the end, and always had a quick comeback. She is loved dearly by her family and her passing has left a big hole in our hearts, but we are happy that she is out of pain and suffering and the limitations incident to age. We will miss you terribly, but this is not goodbye, just see you later.

She is survived by her children, Glenna Griffiths of West Valley City, Stan (Jewel) Martin of Kearns, and Grant Martin of West Valley City; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents; her father; and mother-in-law; sisters Margaret, Doris, and Bonnie and their spouses; son-in-law, Fred Darlynn Griffiths; daughter-in-law, Toni Martin; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; two niecesl; and a nephew.

We want to thank the awesome, loving caregivers and staff at Sagewood at Daybreak, and also with Valeo Hospice, who took such good care of Mom. They truly are angels.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 am to 11:45 am on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the Hunter Village Ward Building at 3450 South 6400 West, West Valley City, Utah, followed by the funeral at 12:00 pm.
