Bruce LaMar Wasden, 94, passed away peacefully in his Taylorsville home on September 13, 2023.
Bruce was born on June 24, 1929 in the 900 square-foot family home in Scipio, Utah, to Carl William Wasden and Ida Bevan Johnson Wasden, the youngest of ten children. He grew up in an idyllic home and surroundings.
Bruce attended elementary school in Scipio and graduated from Millard High School in Filmore, Utah. He graduated from BYU in Elementary Education and earned a Masters in Educational Administration. He worked for many years as an elementary school educator and principal.
Bruce was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two missions to Sweden where, as a young man, he met his sweetheart, Mary Olpin, and again later with his loving wife Mary.
He served in many positions including bishop.
Bruce loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing as often as possible. He loved to garden and he grew world-class cantaloupe, winning the competition with Sister Faust for the best cantaloupe (according to Bruce). The grandchildren loved working in the garden with him. They loved to take a salt shaker and eat vegetables right out in the garden.
He worked for many years during the summers with the U.S. Forest Service. He served for many years with the Boy Scouts and was awarded the Silver Beaver.
He served on the Bennion Community Council and the Taylorsville City Council. He was instrumental in the formation of Taylorsville City.
Bruce was also active in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.
After his wife Mary passed in 2000, Bruce married Joan Skinner in 2004. We appreciate her loving care of Dad.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, and his wife Mary, Jordan (great-grandson) and Chelsea (granddaughter). He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, and her son Doug; his children, Ray (Sue), Roy (Linda), Becky (Van), Bevan (Laura), LaMar (Katia), Fred (Jeannie), Sandy, and Mary (Mat). Bruce has 43 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
