Burton Edwin Tew, Jr. Burton Edwin Tew, Jr., 83 after a courageous battle with cancer, died peacefully on August 27, 2011. His final words were the declaration I love you, to his love of 59 years, his wife, Louise. He was born on June 5, 1928 to Burton E Tew. Sr. and Leah Carolina Lundell Tew, at Benjamin, Utah Co., Utah. He is survived by wife, Louise, West Valley, Utah, children Leah (Gary) Krueger, Patricia (Dan) Potts, Cindy Tew Todd, David M. Tew, Clifton, Idaho, R. Burton Tew, Oxford, Idaho, brothers, Fred (Sandra)Tew, Talmage, Utah, John (Gloria)Tew, Thomas (Judy) Tew, Tracy, Tennesse. Sisters, Norma Berntson, Carolyn (Ted) McCandless, Huntington, Utah. He is preceded in death by a son, Barton Hal Tew, a sister, Lynette Tew, son-in-law, Larry Todd, his parents, Burton and Leah and stepmother Mary Tew. Burton will be greatly missed! He lived in Mapleton Utah, working on the family farm. He never could distinguish between farming and darn hard work. Burton s mother, Leah Carolina Lundell Tew, died of lock jaw when Burton was 14 years old. His father married Mary LeRoy five years later. Burton attended BYU one year prior to going on a productive LDS Mission to England, 1948 to 1950. While on his mission the family moved to Talmage, Duchesne Co., Utah. Following his mission, Burton returned to BYU where he met, courted and married Louise Barton, of Manti, Utah. They were married in the Manti Temple on September 26, 1952. He continued college, graduating in June, 1953 with a degree in chemistry. Burton worked in technical marketing and was an original developer/stock holder in incorporating Hylon Koburn Chemicals, Inc. in 1953. HyKo is still a thriving business today. Burton is still a major stock holder in that company. In 1958, the family moved to Bakersfield, CA. where Burton formed his own company, Tew Tech. He sold the company and worked for Metropolitan Life for a year. The family returned to Utah in 1960, and Burton went to work at Hercules Aerospace Corporation where he worked for 29 years, retiring in 1989 as a staff scientist. Burton and Louise have been active in the LDS Church, filling many responsible positions, including the couple s San Diego LDS Mission. Burton has had a strong intellectual belief in Intelligent Design, as opposed to Darwin s Theory of Evolution, and has given many talks and addressed many study groups on this subject. Burton is well known for his wit and humor. He s able to tell a joke for every situation and occurrence. He has compiled some of his riddles and jokes for posterity. He is especially known for his rendition of Rindercella and the tale of The Prodical Son in the key of F. Burton and Louise spent a lot of their retirement traveling, cruising and enjoying life. They really enjoyed belonging and traveling with the Good Sam Ute Salt Shakers, Chapter #1. They lived in Winter Haven, Washington, Utah during the winter months and in West Valley (Granger) during the other six months. They have really enjoyed their rich, full lives together. A special thanks goes to Symbii Hospice and nurse Rashelle Van Wagoner for the care they rendered. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 1, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the L.D.S. Stake House located at 2850 West 3835 South, West Valley, Utah There will be a viewing Wednesday, August 31, 6-8 p.m. at the church and 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
