Carole Hazel Olm Hanneman, age 88, died January 12, 2015. She was born July 12, 1926 in Marathon County in Central Wisconsin, the oldest child of Phillip and Mable Heller Olm. Graduated from Stratford High School in 1944 and attended Wood County Teachers College, 1944-46. Carole received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 1961 and later a Masters of Science degree in elementary education from the same college. She married Norman Hanneman in 1947; that marriage ended in 1976. Three children, Phillip, Gary and Geri-Lyn, blessed that marriage. Carole spent a long satisfying career in elementary education. She taught ten years in one-room country school and went on to teach third grade in the Spencer Public School System and in the Marshfield Public School System in central Wisconsin. Upon completing her Masters degree, Carole received further training in gifted education. She worked for the state of Wisconsin in Stevens Point, CESA 17, assisting and setting up gifted programs for children. She went on to set up a gifted program in Wautoma, Wisconsin for grades 1-0. In 1978 she moved to Utah where she taught an ELP program for two years, but her heart was always in the regular classroom and she returned to the classroom at Meadow Lark Elementary in the Salt Lake City School District. After 46 successful years in education, Carole retired. She then began studying watercolor and enjoyed painting. She remained active with her home, gardening, family, flowers and art. Carole is survived by son, Gary Hanneman; daughter, Geri-Lyn Hanneman; 4 grandhcildren: Amy Schaal, Belinda Blackwell, Alexis, Damien and Draven Troutman; sister, Phyllis Schnelle; brother, Eugene Olm. Amy and Ryan gave her 2 great-grandchildren: Meyer and Mallery. She is predeceased by her son, Phillip; and sister, LaRae. Rest in peace, Mom.
