Cathy Avila

Cathy Rae Mower Avila passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 28, 2023; she was 67.

The youngest child of John and Geraldine Mower, Cathy was born on August 15, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Cathy had four siblings, three brothers and one sister.

While working at Becton Dickinson, Cathy met the love of her life, Jose (Richard) Avila, and they later married on February 9, 1977. Cathy and Jose had three children: Brian, Jamie (Drew) Hansen, and Angie (Greg) Woodward. Cathy truly was the best momma a child could ever ask for.

Cathy also had eight grandchildren: Kayden (Shayla), Jacoy (Brendon), Triston, Alaya, Madisen, Ashton, Kailee, and Kaiden. Cathy also had five great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Cathy had a love for all animals, especially her baby dog Chewy, who was her favorite among us all. She had a passion for coloring and spent as much time with her family as possible.

Grandma, you were one of the kindest women ever to grace this earth, and I don't think I'll ever find anyone quite as witty and charming as you. I'll love you always, even if you're not here with me physically.

Cathy was the kindest woman you could have ever known; she did not have a mean bone in her body. She taught you what it was to be loved and taught others how to love in return; she has such a witty and charming sense of humor.

Cathy is preceded in death by her father, mother, son, brother Terri, Red, sister Sherri Buxton, and sister-in-law Dalene Mower.

Cathy will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts; we know she will continue to watch over us all.

There will be a graveside service for Mrs. Cathy Avila on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at West Jordan City Cemetery, 7800 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah.

Visitation: Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.

Interment: West Jordan City Cemetery
