Claine K. Smith, 59, of Sandy, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on July 28, 2023. Claine was born to Paul and Rhea Smith in Lancaster, California. He was the second of four boys. He was raised in California and Utah. As a youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Pleasant Grove High School, he served an 18-month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sydney, Australia. Following his mission, he earned a nursing degree from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. He worked as a nurse his entire career, specializing in ICU care in Utah and Michigan. He was married to Bettina Grundler from 2000-2015 and remained friends as they raised their daughter, Sierra Rose.
Claine loved the mountains of Utah and would spend time skiing, hiking, and exploring those mountains. He loved fishing with his Dad. Claine's passion was cooking, and improving recipes. He loved sharing his cooking talent with friends and family.
Claine is survived by his daughter and favorite person Sierra Rose, his parents Paul and Rhea Smith (Rexburg, Idaho), his brothers and their spouses Roy and Maria Smith (Anchorage, Alaska), Karl and Linda Smith (Reno, Nevada), Greg and Elizabeth Smith (Grantsville, Utah), and 11 nieces and nephews.
