Clinton O'Dell Norby

Clinton O'Dell Norby, 95, of Salt Lake City, died November 26, 2017 peacefully in his home of natural causes. He was born February 21, 1922, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Carl Fredrick Norby and Mary Ann Irwin. He served in the US Army Air Corps in World War II; his B-17 was shot down during this 2nd mission. He returned home unharmed and married Margaret Claire Cheshire on June 25, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended a technical school to learn building construction. With his skills, he was able to add on a big addition to his home as well as a partial basement. He loved working with wood and doing projects around the house. He worked at the Post Office for 32 years after which he retired and took a part time job at the Deseret Gym. He loved this job because he could visit with people and have brief conversations with the general authorities as they attended the gym. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life where he served in many callings. One of his favorites was being a veil worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 35 years. He went about his life quietly but had a genuine love for people and could talk to anybody. When his wife died in 2001, he started attending a gym where he made numerous friends. He had a gift for making everyone feel important and special and they in return loved him. He was very proud of his family and loved them unconditionally. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his children Scott (Paula), David (Linda), Marsha (Morgan), Brad (Joyce), Andrea (Drue); 27 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren (with 5 on the way); and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; and his only brother Robert. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 1st at 12:00 noon in the Cannon 9th Ward building, 1250 West 1400 South.
