Our incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend, Clyde A. Stringham, 91, caught the last fish, shot the last duck and swam the last mile, deciding it was finally time to return with honor. He peacefully passed away in his youngest son Steven's arms late Friday, December 9, 2016. Clyde was born on August 20, 1925 in Elko, NV to Ancil and Elsie Stringham. He married his eternal love, Donna Hirschi on January 9, 1950 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They shared 66 treasured years. Clyde served an honorable LDS mission Arizona (Spanish speaking) and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked at Chevron Oil Co. for 30 years, and then as the Construction Superintendent at the Utah State Prison for 10 years. He was also a licensed general contractor who built and remodeled homes in his "spare" time. Dad loved to ski, particularly the Germania Bowl at Alta. He was forced to quit at age 30 when a serious skiing accident cost him an eye, and nearly his life, but when his four boys were old enough, Mom insisted he teach them all to ski so they would have something they all loved to do together. He did, and enjoyed many more years on the slopes till bad knees finally forced him to quit for good. An avid bird hunter and fisherman, Dad taught us how to work hard, play hard and relax hard. If you had a dollar for every fish caught in that little 14 flat-bottomed boat, you'd have a tidy sum. In retirement, Mom and Dad traveled extensively in their 5th wheel trailer. If it was summer, you'd find them at Joe's Valley Reservoir, Upper Stillwater, or their beloved East Canyon resort. Clyde was a devout member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings through his life, none he loved more than that of Ordinance Worker in the Temple. He and Donna served continuously in the Jordan River Temple for over 20 years. Dad loved to swim and was still swimming a mile four days per week up until three months before his passing. Clyde is survived by his sweetheart Donna; his four loving sons: Max (Debbie), Bruce (Ruth), Brent (Janet), and Steven; 7 grandchildren: Christy, Diane, Micheal, David, Blake, Eric, Robert; 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; brother Marion; sisters Ilene and Clayone. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016, 12:00 noon, at Midvale East 4th Ward building, 87 East 7100 South, where viewings will be held Monday, December 19th, 6:30-8:00 p.m., and again prior to services on Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
