Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and best friend Colleen Kay Hepworth Winkler passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia on July 2, 2021. Colleen was born on February 8, 1937 to Dean and Clara Hepworth. She grew up in Salt Lake City and attended West High School. She later met, fell in love with, and married her soul matey, a sailor in the US Navy, Richard Winkler.
Mom's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family; whether it was at the cabin, playing games and laughing often, yearly camping trips, or traveling to see the world. She always made the holidays extra special. Everyone was excited to see what she painted on the window or prepared for our enjoyment. Shock and awe factors were high on her agenda!
Colleen was an accomplished seamstress, artist, oil painter, crafter, and a mighty prankster. The many sets she painted for road shows demonstrated her unselfish use of her many talents. Colleen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings within the church. She especially enjoyed teaching the gospel and serving in the Jordan River Temple. She was very caring and loving, and touched many peoples lives.
Colleen was preceded in death by both her parents; a brother; her son Kirk Richard Winkler; and husband Richard Eric Winkler. She is survived by her children: Kim (Scott) Thomas, Bret (Gale) Winkler, Liesel (David) Polichette, and Tara (Shawn) Sanchez; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and her 3 sisters - Sharon Jacobsen, Joyce Williams, & Gayle McCloy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am on Thursday July 8, 2021 at the Jordan 6th Ward building located at 3650 West 4400 South, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00am and ending at 11:15am. Interment will be at Bountiful City Cemetery.
We wish to give a great big thank you to the staff of The Ridge Cottonwood, Aspen Ridge Hospice (Ronda), and Mom's physician (Dr. Margaret Lunt) for the care and love given and shown to Mom and us throughout the years.
