On January 4, 2024, our mother, Connie Claire (Edwards) Potts, aged 75, passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Connie was born October 7, 1947, to Charles Osro Edwards and Ellery Clarice Daggett in Coos Bay, Oregon. She attended Marshfield High School and in 1965 she met Dellas "Butch" Harold Potts. They were married the following year in 1966 in the First Methodist Church. Connie and Butch joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972 and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Oakland California Temple. They celebrated nearly 56 years together before Butch passed away on March 8, 2022. She is also preceded in death by her parents and 7 of her 9 siblings.
Connie's faith in God and Jesus Christ was her guiding light. Her unwavering testimony stands as a testament to her spirit and determination. Connie was not just a woman of faith; she was a force of nature. Her determination was legendary, strong enough to lead her family to new horizons and opportunities, where she became the cornerstone of their growth and success. She nurtured and motivated our father to follow an opportunity for steady work in Utah in 1982, which required them to leave the life they knew in Oregon.
She will be remembered for the fun she inserted into small and big moments such as, backyard water fights that she continued into the house, unexpected cartwheels and adlib singing. She did the very best she could with what she had. Such as, wearing a pair of shoes that were falling apart or taking on janitorial duties at the gymnastics gym to ensure her children had better opportunities than she did. We are so grateful for her selflessness and sacrifices and we choose to celebrate the positives.
Connie's spirit lives on through her seven children: Jennifer (Kevin) Francis, Carla (James) McNealy, Kevin (Tamilyn) Potts, Katie Potts, Laura (Christopher) Gibbons, Sarah (Brent) Taylor, and Julie (Levi) Pettit. Her legacy also continues through her 25 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Connie's life will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11:00 am at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood road with a viewing prior from 10-10:45 a.m.
