Darryl Steele

August 28, 1939 — May 7, 2021

Alton Darryl Steele, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on May 7, 2021. Darryl was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 28, 1939 to Alton and Adele Steele. He is the middle of three children; he has an older sister, Kaye, and a younger brother, Ron.

Darryl attended Brigham Young University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in marketing. He was one of the founding members of the BYU Cougar Club. While attending BYU he also met his first wife, Lynda Kay Webb, who he married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 5, 1964.  During their 53 years of marriage, Lynda and Darryl had five children:  Steffanie (Scott), John, Brad (Alanna), Jeffrey (Mollee) and Daniel (Ashley). After Lynda passed away, Darryl married Lorita Beers on August 24, 2019.

During his career Darryl worked in advertising at Disneyland, Mobile Oil and as the National Sales Manager for KSL Radio. He also worked as the General Manager of B98.7 Radio.

Darryl was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. There were few things in life that he loved more than reeling in a rainbow trout. Darryl passed his love of fishing on to each of his sons who treasure the time they spent with him on the river.

Darryl loved life and being with his family. He enjoyed sharing a delicious meal with the people he loved.  He would often call and ask his children if he could “Put your name in the Pot” to share dinner.  He had a joyous zest of life.  He could laugh in any situation. He became fast friends with everyone he met.

Darryl was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in California /Nevada prior to getting married. He subsequently served in numerous capacities, but particularly enjoyed leading the ward choir. Darryl had a wonderful signing voice and loved performing.

Darryl is survived by his wife Lorita; five children; 21 grandchildren; his sister Kaye; and his brother Ron. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lynda.
