David returned home April 22, 2022 after suffering from a lengthy illness. He is survived by his mother; two sisters, Sherri (Steve) Albrecht, Carole (Marvin) Sanders; his three nephews; two nieces; two great-nephews; and one great-niece. He is preceded in death by his father; and his brother, Scott McNeely.
He was born October 7, 1963 in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the son of Richard Charles McNeely and Nola “Joan” Croft. David was the oldest of four children and grew up in Granger/West Valley, Utah. He was a graduate of Granger High School, which was a huge achievement for him. He was a lifelong and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Dearborn, Michigan.
Although David had many challenges, he strived to do his best in serving in all of his callings. David loved his nieces and nephews. He always made sure they were not forgotten on their birthdays or Christmases. He was good to many friends and always loved a good laugh. He was the first one to try and do a good prank or joke on someone but couldn’t keep it secret. David loved to read, especially history and anything to do with the Civil War. He had an incredible memory and would have been an excellent contestant on Jeopardy. He loved leatherwork and woodwork. David loved living in his home in Magna and loved all his friends and neighbors there. He was sad to leave when he did. He shared many friendships there and always had many fond memories. While in the care center he made an incredible friendship with his roommate, and the family will be forever grateful to Mark, who watched out for him, especially over the last few months.
David also had a wonderful relationship with his mom, who was in the same care center. They spent many hours together visiting either by way of telephone when they were confined to their rooms during Covid or playing bingo, going to church, participating in activities and mealtimes. Carole always made sure they had matching t-shirts for the holidays that they proudly wore.
The family wishes to thank the many staff members and Hospice nurses and doctors at Hunter Hollow for their love and care to David.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022, 11:00 am at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. Feel free to bring a lawn chair.
