Mel David Melvin Bunkall (Mel) passed away at home on March 3, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 3, 1926, in Salt Lake City, Utah to David Leslie and Eva Mary Simons Bunkall. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946. He married Nola Jean Olson on October 14, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been a happy couple for over 71 years. Mel loved boating, camping, skiing, and vacationing with his family. The Bunkall Bash (family reunion) was the highlight event each summer. Dad was so good to help with any projects involving his children. He was always there to help even into his 80's. He worked in the printing industry for over 30 years at Deseret Press. He was a life-long, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a service mission at the SLCC Institute and was a dedicated home teacher. Mel is survived by his wife, Nola Bunkall; his children: Corwin (Judy), Larry (Carolyn), Jeanne (Brian) Widerburg, Nancy (Vaughn) Shosted, Susan (Greg) Smith, and Brent (Tara); 28 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; brother and a grandson (Dallas). Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018, 12:00 pm at the LDS Church located at 8435 S 2700 W, where viewings will be held Friday, March 16, 2018, 6:00-8:00 pm and prior to the funeral from 11:00-11:45 am. Interment at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W. 4100 S., West Valley City. Funeral arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
