David Mark Newman

David Mark Newman was born to Jack and Donna Newman on June 25, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away and was “promoted” to Heaven on January 15, 2020.

He loved his family more than anything. He also loved fishing, camping, going to church, and was a very proud Soldier of The Salvation Army.

When Dave was younger, he loved music. He had the biggest stereo system along with the largest vinyl record collection of close to a thousand albums.

He also used to have a very special (and giant) dog, an Irish Wolfhound, named Callahan. He was a gentle giant just like Dave. He loved that dog with all his heart, and they shared many great times together. Even long after he lost his beloved dog, he always shared their stories with everyone.

In 1977, he spent months living off the land in Salmon, Idaho. Being outdoors was his favorite. His family and friends have many camping or fishing memories they share with him.

Dave was a mechanic for many years and loved cars.

He later joined The Salvation Army church and they saved his life. He overcame many struggles and made everyone around him very proud. He then became a Soldier for The Salvation Army and he cherished this dearly. He spent every single day of the rest of his life giving back all the love and support he received. He wanted everybody to feel the same joy that he felt and know that there is always hope. Dave also worked for this church and helped with many things, but his main job was driving the bus. He drove people to and from church, to activities, camping trips, etc. Everyone loved him.

He always kept busy with projects and was always doing something interesting. He always had something funny to say and was still making everyone laugh even in his final days. Dave had a heart of gold and was the most amazing man. He will be truly missed by so many and the world will never be the same again without him.

He is celebrated in life by his brothers Gary Newman, Randy Newman, Shawn Newman and Brent Newman; his children Dillon Newman, Nick Newman, Ashley Christensen; and son-in-law Andrew Christensen; his granddaughter Skylynn Christensen; his former wife Janice B. Newman; and many wonderful friends that were more like family to him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2:00PM at The Salvation Army: 438 S 900 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84104.
