David Edward Sommercorn was born November 17, 1934, in Murray, Utah, to Charles E. Sommercorn and Pearl DeYoung. He passed away January 30, 2015, at his home in South Jordan, Utah. He married Janice Waters on March 5, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. They both later served as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple. At age 18, he started working for Love Machinery and later opened JD Automotive Machine Shop, which he ran for many years. He owned and operated Hammond Organ Service & Parts until he retired in 1998, when he was called as Bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survived by wife; son, Gary D. Sommercorn; daughter, Michelle (Robert) Hicks; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at Community Nursing Services for their kind and loving care. There will be a viewing from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville. A second viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, February 7, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., at the River 3rd Ward, 1540 West 10400 South in South Jordan.
