Diane was born January 16, 1930 in Oak Park, Cook, Illinois to Carl Leonard and Marguerite Lawrence Winterrose. She had one brother, Carl Leonard, Jr. and one sister, Dorothy Sofield. The family moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1937 when her father was transferred by Illinois Bell Telephone Company. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1949 after being bedfast for one year with Rheumatic Fever.
The 18th of February 1951, she married Alvin Krell, Jr. in Springfield, Illinois. One daughter, Karen Christine Krell was born to them on February 16, 1956. They were later divorced.
She met Jack Martin Cook in Springfield, Illinois while working for Sangamon County Abstract Company and they were married on April 29, 1961. Diane and Karen (5) joined forces with Jack and his children, and became a family of six. Jack had been widowed in 1959 and was a single father of three: Kathy (6), Tim (3) and Lori (2). Jack was employed by CILCO (Central Illinois Light Company).
The family moved in 1965 to Mattoon, Illinois, where Jack was employed by Central Illinois Public Service Company (CIPS). While living there, Diane enrolled in College and completed two years. Diane joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 15, 1961 and served in many leadership callings: Young Women’s President, Relief Society President and Primary President. She also taught home study Seminary. After retirement, Diane and Jack served missions in the Chicago Temple, the Dallas Temple and the Salt Lake Inner City Mission. They moved to Sandy, Utah in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister Dorothy. She is survived by her husband, Jack Martin Cook; 4 children, Kathleen J. Payne-Barker (Ted), Karen Krell Simmons (Patrick), Timothy F. (Deborah), Lori Brooks (Steve); 1 brother Carl Leonard Winterrose, Jr.; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 22, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at Southtowne Branch, 275 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will precede services from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
