Donald LaMarr Thorup 1928 ~ 2013 On June 10, 2013 our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend, Donald LaMarr Thorup, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born January 18, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Francis Easter Thorup and Reeta Vernell Isom. Don served his country during the occupation of Japan in WWII. He married Dona Lea Holmes May 5, 1951, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on September 1, 1955. Don had his pilot s license at age 16 and enjoyed flying throughout his life. He loved hunting and fishing with his brothers and we loved to hear his stories of adventures in Alaska and Montana. At the age of 23 he was the youngest licensed cement contractor in Utah and later formed Thorup Brothers Construction with his brothers, Kenneth and Douglas, and built many schools and commercial buildings in the Salt Lake Valley and surrounding areas. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many priesthood leadership callings. Later in life he served a humanitarian mission in West Virginia with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dona; their children: Lance (Carolyn), Launa (Michael) Haslam, Layne (Carolyn), Leigh, and son-in-law Craig Lingard. Don was loved by his 27 grandchildren and 46 great-grand-children. He was very proud that 12 of his grandchildren served missions for the church. Preceded in death by his daughters: Linda (Lingard), and Lori. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013, 11:00 am at the Granger North Stake, 3450 West 3100 South, WVC, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday June 14, 2013, 6:00 - 8:00 pm at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, and Saturday at the church, 10:00 until 10:45 am.
