Donald Kay Steele was born on April 12, 1953, in Price, Utah to May Leone Andrew and John Steele, Jr., of Scottish heritage. He attended schools in Helper and Price and earned a degree in metallurgy from the University of Utah. He worked for the Bureau of Mines, retiring in 1993.
In 1972, he met the love of his life, Jo Lynn Behling. The next year, they married in the Manti Temple and last year celebrated 50 years together. They lived in Taylorsville, Utah for 47 years, where his five children were raised: Clinton, Jordan, Bryan, Devan, and Nicole (Mitchell Medico).
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the scouting program for many years, from Cub Scouts to Varsity Scouts, and really enjoyed all the camping trips he went on.
Don was an avid big game hunter of elk, deer, and antelope. He processed the meat and taught the boys to do the same. He set up a target in the back yard and would practice shooting a bow left-handed (he was right-handed). He loved to go camping, and playing games with his family, his favorites being card games, especially Scotch Rummy.
In October, Don was diagnosed with cancer. After a brief but valiant battle, he passed away. He is survived by his wife, five children, and fifteen grandchildren.
