Dorothy E. Empey 1924 ~ 2013 Dorothy Ella Mitchell Empey joyfully reunited with her sweetheart, Kay, and her son, Dwight, on July 31, 2013. Ella was born March 4, 1924 in Pleasant Green, Utah (now Magna) to Harry Marcus Mitchell and Sylvia Alida Coon. Her fiery red hair attracted the attention of William Kay Empey. They were married on New Year's Day, 1944, later solemnized (1975) in the Salt Lake Temple. They began their family in Magna and later moved to Granger (now West Valley). Family was everything to Ella. Her family has many happy memories of holiday dinners and Sunday visits at Grandma's. In quiet, simple ways she gave her love and support to them. Ella had a gift for crocheting. Many family members treasure the beautiful afghans she lovingly made for them. Ella enjoyed traveling with her husband, but only tolerated the yearly trek to St. George. She especially loved seeing the beauties of the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. Though dementia robbed her of the ability to communicate, she never stopped expressing love and concern to her family. She will be fondly remembered by her son Randy (JoAnn), Newnan, GA; Sheila (Fred) Charles and Shauna (Wendell) Oakeson, West Valley City, UT; Linda Faris Empey, Riverton UT; Ella and Kay had 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Amazingly, she never forgot a birthday! Many thanks for the loving care given by the staff at Legacy Village and Inspiration Hospice. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 3, 2013 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 4505 South 3420 West, West Valley City, UT, with a viewing Friday, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 10:00-10:45 prior to services.
