Dorothy Smith

March 10, 1934 — June 21, 2024

Dorothy was the second of seven children born to Eva Kropf Smith and LeRoy Bigler Smith in Salt Lake City. She graduated from Granite High School in 1952.

When she was 24, she served a Mission to Uruguay ( 1958-1960) for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Later in life she served a second Mission at the Church Employment Center. She served in many callings throughout her life including as a Temple Worker.

Dorothy worked at Cummins Intermountain Diesel for nearly 45 years. Dorothy loved being with her family and was ready to go anytime someone went on a trip. She also traveled with friends.

She loved camping, going to plays at Hale Center Theater and enjoyed many other activities.

She was an avid reader and learned to read at the age of four while listening to her older sister practice reading. In addition to the hundreds of books in her home library, she also collected cookbooks. She would test new recipes on her family at our weekly family get-togethers. She was well known as a candy maker and her family and friends looked forward to her candy gifts at Christmas.

She touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed.

Dorothy is survived by her sisters; Rayona Carter, Linda Haas, and Marina Olsen; brother Martin Smith and sister-in-law Judy Smith. She is also survived by niece Debra (Greg) Cayias, who she helped raise as well as 24 other nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister LeRoyce Scott; brother Steve Smith; brothers-in-law Marv Carter and Brent Olsen; nephew Kenneth Smith; niece Amy Smith; great-nephews Mike Cayias and Uri Caudill, and great-niece Natalie Carter.
