Duane Madsen

August 14, 1934 — January 25, 2017

Duane Madsen "Buck" Our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on January 25, 2017 at the age of 82. Dad was born and raised in Moroni, Utah on August 14, 1934 to Virgil and Aneita Madsen. He grew up on a farm and loved sharing memories of his childhood and living the life of a cowboy. After attending 1 year at Snow College dad moved to Salt Lake City to continue his education at the University of Utah. He started work at Armco Steel Corporation where he worked for 30 years until retiring in 1986. While in Salt Lake, dad met and later married our mother Joyce Cheney on July 12, 1958 in the Manti Temple. Together they have three daughters. They lived and raised their family in Granger, Utah. His wife, our mother, passed away January 6, 2004. Our dad loved spending time with his family taking us on our annual summer vacations touring National Parks. His retirement allowed him to spend a lot of time with his young grandsons which he enjoyed very much. Dad loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He built a family cabin in Fairview, Utah for all of us to spend time as a family together and enjoy the peacefulness of the outdoors. Dad taught and coached his daughters in softball, teaching us the valuable lessons of commitment, practice and teamwork. But the most important lesson dad ever taught us is no matter what curve ball life throws at you, keep swinging. Dad is survived by his loving daughters: Val (Eneli) Madsen, Tonja Madsen, Jill (Cory) Perry; three grandchildren: Nathan (Jordan) Perry, Tyson Perry, Ashley (Lehi) Lacey; six great-grandchildren: Nolan and Keira Perry who affectionately call him G-Papa, Grady, Liam, Kolt and Harper Lacey who affectionately call him Grandpa Grape. Preceded in death by his loving wife; parents; sisters Lael and Norma. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the ICU nurses at St. Marks Hospital for the care they provided to dad, especially our angel nurse Anna who provided more comfort to us than she will ever realize. Also, our sincere appreciation to The Lodge Hospice Center for providing such loving care to dad, and to us in his final days. A viewing will be held Monday, January 30, 2017 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. Burial and graveside prayer will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Fairview City Cemetery.
