E. Verne Breeze

"Beloved Husband and Father" Verne Breeze, 98, of West Valley City, passed away peacefully at his home on November 25, 2014. Verne was the first child born to Alfred and Emma Breeze on March 9, 1916, in Magna, Utah. Verne met his sweetheart, Mable Rolfe, and they were married on June 16, 1936. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 78 wonderful years together. Verne began his career at Kennecott Copper as a mill carpenter. In 1947, he started Valley Center Building and Cabinet, Inc. with his partner Clarence Lowder. He also started Verne Breeze Realty and enjoyed working with his family in both businesses. In the early 70's he was a founding member of the Dixie Six Corporation. He served as President of the Home Builders Association of Greater Salt Lake. He also served on local and national Boards of Directors. He was inducted into the West Valley City "Hall of Fame". He never served for recognition, but felt compelled to give back to an industry and community that provided a living for his family. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in many different positions. He was called as a Bishop in 1947, and served until called to serve as a counselor to Grant Bangerter in the North Jordon Stake. He later served as Stake President of the North Jordan Stake and then the Salt Lake Hunter Stake. When released, he was called as Patriarch in the Salt Lake Hunter Stake and enjoyed giving Patriarchal blessings for 34 years. His family members continued to be recipients of his blessings until the time of his death. He had a strong testimony of the gospel and enjoyed sharing his testimony with others and especially with his family. He truly loved the scriptures and he testified often of the doctrines of the Book of Mormon. He enjoyed spending time with his family in the beauty of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and was enthusiastic in sharing with all of his posterity that was old enough to hold a pole. He made everyone feel like they were his favorite. He was an avid gardener and he especially enjoyed his roses, purple globes, and iris's. Dad was a hard worker from dawn to dusk and we all enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He enjoyed boating and waterskiing into his 70's. At age 75, he built a second home in St. George, Utah, that was framed by he and his son Mike. Upon retirement, his friends invited him to go golfing and within a short time he got a "hole in one". That encouraged him to enjoy golf into his 90's. Verne is survived by his wife, Mable; daughters, Karen Bateman, and Sheila (Jim) Ransdell; son, Michael (Kathy) Breeze; 14 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marian and Ruth; son-in-law, Neldon Bateman; and grandson, Jared Spencer Bateman. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, at the Salt Lake Hunter Stake Center, 3737 South 5600 West in West Valley City. Viewings will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville, and from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church.
