Thurman Edward Dixon, known by his friends as Ed, was born April 4, 1943 in Tooele, Utah to Golden William and Donna Shields Dixon, passed away July 30, 2021 surrounded by loved ones at his favorite vacation spot, Bear Lake.
Ed was raised in Pine Canyon, Utah where he loved to ride horses, hunt, and work on his hot rods. He had a special relationship with his Grandpa and Grandma Shields who lived next door. He graduated from Tooele High School where he excelled in football and wrestling. He also graduated from Trade Tech, where he became a Machinist/Engineer and went on to work for L3 Communications for 48 years. He retired in 2009. He met and fell madly in love with Kathleen Larsen and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple June 14, 1963. Together they raised six children. Their home was filled with love, laughter, and cool cars. They taught their children to work hard, love the Lord, and serve others. Ed was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Bishop, High Councilor, and Temple Worker. He especially loved serving in the singles ward bishopric and teaching Primary with his wife.
Ed was loved by all who knew him. He was giant in stature with a heart to match, quick witted, unassuming, and could fix anything. His favorite thing to do was be with his family. He loved boating, camping, motorcycle/UTV riding, watching BYU sports and old cowboy movies. We will miss Sunday dinners at his house, complete with snarky comments and funny stories, our lunches out, and him being the rock of our family, but know he is happy to be reunited again with the love of his life.
He is survived by his six children, Darrin (Tammy) Dixon, Lisa (Darren) McGrath, Wade (Karen) Dixon, Shannon (Brett) Smith, Jason (Ruth) Dixon, Celena (Chad) Collotzi; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one on the way. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Dansie; brothers Bill (Carla), Raymond (Tana) Dixon; sister in law Mary Dixon; and brother in law Mike (Rhonda) Larsen.
He was preceded in death by parents; wife Kathy; brothers, Ron (Gay) and Laury Dixon.
The family would like to thank the Copperview Medical staff, especially Dr. Sonny Hollingsworth, also the angel nurses and physician’s assistant that helped him during his last moments. We also appreciated the kindness of the Bear Lake KOA staff.
In the words of Ed, “I don’t need no twigs and shiz” so in lieu of flowers, please create a memory with your loved ones, that’s what mattered most to him!
