Edith Calderwood Flynn, age 86, passed away Wednesday morning, July 19, 2017 at home. Mom was born June 14, 1931 in Glasgow, Scotland to Samuel Calderwood and Isabella Reid Clarke. Mom was the youngest of four children. She grew up in Glasgow during the depression and World War II and at the age of 14 she moved to Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. During this time, she met the missionaries and first heard about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Upon returning to Glasgow, she sought out the missionaries and was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shortly after, she served a mission in Liverpool and its surrounding areas where she first met our father in Wigan, England while he was serving his mission. After her mission, Mom emigrated to Utah where Dad reconnected with her and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 28 1956. They had three children, Shannon (Robyn), Erin Fletcher and Calene Hacking (deceased), six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mom's devotion to the gospel and service in the church was lifelong and unwavering. She was the only member of her family to the join the church and spent countless hours engaged in genealogy work and brought the saving ordinances to hundreds of her ancestors. Mom and Dad faithfully served every Tuesday and Thursday night as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple from its opening in 1981 for almost 30 years. She was literally a savior on Mount Zion in her tireless efforts to assist in the gathering of Israel. Mom was proud of her heritage and passed onto her descendants a love of all things Scottish. Her Sunday dinners were legendary and many family and friends found a welcome place at our parents table. We will miss her unbridled laughter, her slight Scottish brogue, and the twinkle in her eye. A special thanks to Gloria for her tender care of our mother in her final days. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville Gardens 1st Ward, 4252 S.
