EeLynn Banks

December 3, 1942 — July 2, 2022

EeLynn was born on December 3, 1942, in Long Beach, California to Seymour Deal Anderson and Effie Elaine Miles Anderson.

She attended school in Garden Grove and Huntington Beach, California. Following her elementary schooling she attended and graduated from Long Beach State College. She served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British South Mission, where she was assigned as the personal secretary to the mission president, President Don Archer. Following her mission, she attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education.

EeLynn was a schoolteacher for 31 years, one year in California and 30 years in the Granite School District, most of which was as a first and second grade teacher at West Kearns Elementary.

In early 1969 she met and dated a widower with three small children. Gordon and EeLynn were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 13, 1969. They just celebrated their 53rd anniversary.

EeLynn loved children and found herself as a mother with three children, Gordon who was three when they married and twins, Kathy and Scott, who had just turned one. As time went on, they added three more children.

In 1977, she and her family moved to Bennion (now Taylorsville) where she lived for the rest of her life. She was a wonderful and much-loved mother and grandmother. She was also a highly regarded schoolteacher, serving for years as the grade level chairman for the second grade at West Kearns.

More important to her than anything except her family was the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel. She served as Stake Primary President, counselor in the ward Relief Society Presidency and many years as a teacher in the Primary. Her favorite calling was as the pianist in the Primary. She had a great love for the children and was deeply saddened when she was released from her calling with the children and their music.

Following her retirement, she and Gordon served a one-year church service mission as the supervisors of the evening shift at the Humanitarian Center. When that assignment was completed, she and Gordon accepted a call to serve as missionaries in the El Dorado Branch. Neither she nor Gordon spoke Spanish but with the help of some of the best people on earth who helped as translators and interpreters, they successfully completed their mission. In that mission, she held classes each Tuesday evening to teach piano and music conducting classes to those who wanted to attend. She served as the organist for the branch for the entire 30 months that they served. Many loving and eternal friendships were made during that time.

EeLynn passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Carrington Court Care Center. The family is grateful for the care she received while there.
