Eldeane Merrill Sheffer, age 85, or Taylorsville, Utah, passed away July 10, 2016. She was born in St. George, Utah, to Horatio Harris and Millie Hardy Merrill, on May 21, 1931. She married Bert D. Sheffer on July 12, 1949, in the St. George LDS Temple. Survivors include her husband, Bert; her children: Dean (Angeli), Dale (Pam), Linda Woodfield (Scott), David (Gaile), Robert (Jill), Sandra Carstensen, (Barry), Don (Sharon), and Darren (Sonja). She is also survived by 48 grandchildren and 82 great-grandchildren. Eldeane Merrill Sheffer was the oldest of five children. Her parents were living in Mesquite, Nevada, but went to St. George for her birth, because it was a difficult birth and needed a good doctor. Many of her earliest memories were in Mesquite, Nevada. Her family moved to Las Vegas for several years, while her father worked at Boulder Dam. They next moved to LaVerkin, Utah, where she attended and graduated from Hurricane High School. She met the love of her life, Bert Sheffer, in high school. They were married in the St. George Temple. Their first home was on Pugsley Street, in Salt Lake City. Then they moved to Bennion, where they raised their family of eight childrensix boys and two girls. Eldeane loved to have fun. She was always planning the next party or the next vacation. Her birthday parties were a yearly event never to be missed. Eldeane is the only person known to give away presents to those who came to her birthday party! She loved to travel, and has traveled extensively. She also enjoyed animals, especially dogs. She always had to have a dog, including German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and Boston Terriers. Some of her talents included painting, and her artwork is found throughout her own home, as well as the homes of several family members. She won a blue ribbon at the State Fair for her oil painting of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. She also had a talent for selling, and earned several awards as a top salesperson, especially with illustrated scripture books. Her favorite music was country music. She was also talented in music, playing the piano and the violin. Eldeane was a person who was sensitive to promptings from the Holy Ghost. She used that gift to help in raising her family in righteousness. It was her great privilege to serve a mission with her sweetheart, Bert, to the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Mission. Eldeane battled with health problems the last several years of her life, and wanted to thank Dr. Michael Deininger and the excellent staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their kind and considerate care during this time. Eldeane Merrill Shefferour mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 14 th , at the Bennion LDS 19th Ward, 6250 South 2200 West. Viewings will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
