Eldon A Hjorth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 22, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on March 1, 1946, in Payson, Utah, to Hugh and Erma Hjorth, Eldon's life was a testament to love, faith, and dedicated service.
Eldon proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976. His commitment to service extended far beyond his military duty-he was a faithful priesthood holder and a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His spiritual journey led him to serve a two-and-a-half-year mission in Finland, and together with his beloved wife Susan, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years, he embarked on four service missions, and a full-time mission, with his wife, on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in the Lubbock, Texas mission.
Eldon is lovingly survived by his sweet wife, Susan Gill Hjorth; his children Chad (Mee), Michael (Tanya), Emily (Jase), Robert (Natasha), Sara (Michael), Alyson (Jeff), Aaron, and Emma; along with 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who will forever cherish his warmth and wisdom. He also leaves behind two brothers and six sisters, while being preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, one sister-in-law, and five brothers-in-law.
A man of deep compassion and steadfast devotion, Eldon touched countless lives with his contagious smile, larger than life sense of humor, gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to family, faith, and community. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in celebrating a life well-lived-a life defined by kindness, resilience, and the hope of a joyous reunion on the other side.
Eldon will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he enriched.
