Eliza Rose Ruf Fife

Eliza Rose Ruf Fife, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on November 4th at age 89, surrounded by her loving family. Born April 8, 1929 in Ostermundigen, Bern, Switzerland to Walter and Lina Gilgen Ruf, she immigrated to the US and arrived in New York Harbor on her 20th birthday, 1949. She married Marlyn Lee Fife on July 9, 1952 for all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they had 10 children. Most important to her was family and faith. She was an amazingly talented, highly intelligent, spiritual woman who always spoke her mind. Eliza was a yodeler, pianist, 3-octave range soprano, artist, avid reader, and was fluent in French, German, Swiss-German, and English. She loved cooking, gardening, Swiss chocolate, and Swiss cheese. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in various church callings, including 30 years in the Jordan River Temple and two missions with her husband to Marseille, France and Papeete, Tahiti. Eliza is survived by her husband of 66 years, Marlyn Fife; 9 children, Ragena (George) Simper, Shawna (Jerry) Draper, Renita (Terry) Calton, Walter (Dana) Fife, Tamara (Jack) Tracy, Vanya (Alan) Slagowski, James (Jill) Fife, Brent (Kathy) Fife, Peter (LeAnn) Fife; 44 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; her sister, Liselotte Anderson; and her brother, Wilford Ruf. She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Saundra; and her sister, Evelyn Smith. She left a legacy of faith, strength, service and love. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 8th, 1:00 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 4986 S Valois Dr, Taylorsville, following a viewing from 11:30 to 12:30. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 7th, at McDougal Funeral Home on 4330 S Redwood Rd, Taylorsville. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
