Beloved daughter, cousin, and friend, Ella Marie Buehn, of Sandy, Utah, passed peacefully into eternity, July 26, 2024. The child of Henry Erich and Elna (Wittwer) Buehn, she was born in Columbia, Missouri on April 21, 1944, while her father was serving in the navy during World War II and her mother was staying with her brother's family. After two years with her mother and grandparents in Hurricane, Utah, her father returned from the war and the reunited family lived in Salt Lake City before moving to their home in Sandy.
Ella Marie graduated from Jordan High School and then the University of Utah with a degree in instrumental and choral music. Always learning, she took university classes for the next 25 years, attending Utah State, Northern Arizona, Arizona State, Idaho State, Boise State, the U of U, and BYU.
She devoted her life to serving God and to teaching His children. During a career that spanned almost 3 decades, she launched or stabilized secondary school music programs in small rural schools in Montana and Arizona, and in larger schools in Idaho and Utah. She taught band, choir, and classes in English, reading, and German.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she actively participated wherever she lived. She loved serving in the temple and spent many years identifying thousands of her father's German ancestors and providing saving ordinances for them. Inscribed on her grave marker is the fitting quotation: "To teach is to touch a life forever."
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 24th, at the Park Ward chapel, 1050 East Galena Drive, Sandy, Utah, with a visitation at 10 AM. Graveside service and burial will be at the Hurricane (Utah) City Cemetery at 1 PM, Monday, August 26th.
