Elwood Charles Shaffer

August 27, 1923 — May 2, 2011

Elwood Charles Shaffer El 1923-2011 On May 2nd, 2011 Elwood Charles Shaffer passed away, leaving behind a loving wife, four sons, and more loving friends and relatives than can be counted. He married Lorene McKeel on January 10th 1950 and they were sealed a year later in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a very proud WWII veteran that loved this country. He used to threaten, as a joke with his boys, to share storie The Big One which they actually enjoyed. A favorite was of the U.S. Army expedition over the Burma Road. He was also proud that all four sons and some grandchildren served in the military. El enjoyed a lifetime in journalism in many areas throughout the U.S. He was always the hardest worker to be found in any job. El also enjoyed working out at the gym all the way till the age of 87. El had a strong testimony and love for the gospel. Some of his final words were live the gospel and he did that in both word and deed from the day he was a convert in his twenties. Throughout his life he served in many callings from the Stake Presidency and Bishopric to teaching young men, but his favorite thing was working with the youth. He also loved being a temple worker and spending time in the House of the Lord, especially with his beautiful bride of 62 years. He is survived by his wife Lorene; his four sons, John (Bev), Donald (Val), Robert, and William (Kim); fourteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He had three sisters and one brother as well as the best in-laws you could ask for. There will be a viewing Sunday May 8th from 6 to 7:30pm at McDougal Funeral home at 4330 South Redwood Rd. Services will be held on Monday, May 9th at 11am, viewing 1 hour prior, in the Taylorsville 1st ward building at 4845 Woodhaven Drive, Taylorsville Utah. A graveside service will follow at the Utah Veterans Cemetery at 17111 South Camp William Road, Riverton, Utah. Occupation:Journalist
