Ephraim John Furness, 96, passed away May 8, 2016. He was born February 17, 1920 to Ephraim John Furness, Sr. and Lucinda Cornwell Furness in SLC, Utah. Ephgraduated from South High School and married his eternal companion, Irene Jones Furness, on June 11, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 71 years; she preceded him in death on August 21, 2014. Eph held many callings throughout his life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in the Central States Mission and his life was dedicated to his family and serving others. Eph was often described as the kindest, most optimistic person you could ever meet. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his beautiful roses, grapes and tomatoes. He sang in the choir until just 3 years ago and was still doing his home teaching faithfully every month. He kept a clean car, clean garage and clean life. He was also a World War II Veteran, serving for 2 years on a Navy Destroyer in the Pacific Ocean. After spending an enjoyable dinner with family, he passed away peacefully at home and got to spend the rest of Mother's Day with his sweetheart Irene. He will be greatly missed by his children: Mike (Kathy) Furness, Bryant (Patricia) Furness, Jeanette (Bruce) Simkins, Gordon (Janna) Furness, Sharon (Cal) Fotheringham; 24 grandchildren; & 35 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016, 12:00 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where a viewing will be held prior to services from 10:00-11:45 am.
