Evan L Baker 1926 2013 Fire Chief Evan L. Baker answered the last bell, hung up his hat and went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 16, 2013. He was born on May 27, 1926 to H. Leroy Baker and Gwen Evans Baker in Magna Utah. He married his sweetheart Marjorie Jackson on November 4, 1948. They enjoyed 65 wonderful years together. Evan was a veteran of the United States Navy. He started his career with the Salt Lake City Fire Department on May 1, 1947 and worked his way up through the ranks to the top position of Chief. As Chief he was instrumental in incorporating the Paramedic Program into the Salt Lake City Fire Department. He retired from the department on July 1, 1983 after 36 years of dedicated service. Evan is survived by his wife Marjorie; sons Ronald E. (Barbara) and Gregory P. (Bonnie); daughter Marla G. (Steven) Griffin; brother Donald K.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild. Evan was preceded in death by his parents and 1 granddaughter. The family would like to genuinely thank the staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice and Carrington Court Memory Care Center for all of their love and kindness while Evan was in their care.
