LeRae Carter

February 16, 1938 — January 11, 2016

Evelyn LeRae Underwood Carter passed away January 11, 2016, in Salt Lake City, Utah, just as the last college football game of the season came to an end. She was born February 16, 1938, to (Charles) LeMar and Leah Underwood in Payson, Utah. She was followed by the birth of two younger sisters, Lynda and Pauline (Polly), in 1940 and 1942 respectively. Unfortunately, Lynda passed away shortly after Pauline was born and LeMar passed away in 1946. After the passing of these dear family members, LeRae and Polly lived with their Grandma Williams in Mapleton. Their mother Leah worked out of town where she met Wes Gould and remarried in September 1946. They later moved to Soda Springs, Idaho, where LeRae and Polly slept in a garage and Leah heated rocks to warm their beds. Eventually, they moved to Springville where they lived for 18 years. LeRae, beautiful as she was, participated in a beauty pageant as a youth. She also received a scholarship to Brigham Young University. Upon completion of her secondary education, she immediately moved to Salt Lake City. There, she worked as a legal secretary and mastered shorthand in the process. On May 9, 1959, LeRae married the love of her life, Gale Robert Carter. They soon became the parents of three wonderful sons, Steve, Greg, and Troy Carter. Following the births of these three boys, LeRae chose to become a homemaker to better care for and nurture her children. She also participated in the community as a Blazer scout leader and as a PTA member. She also served faithfully in her callings in the LDS church. LeRae was also an extremely talented cook. She worked with her mother-in-law in a catering business, eventually taking over the business upon Mrs. Carter's retirement. She also bowled with her friends frequently, participating weekly in a league for decades. LeRae was an avid sports fan. She loved to follow college football and the Jazz. She looked forward to games each week and kept track of all the scores. She is survived by her: sisters Pauline (Marlin), Joann (Craig), Donna, and brother Randy (Kathy); sons, Steven (Diana) Carter, and Greg (Terelyn) Carter; 10 grandchildren, and 6.5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by parents; sister, Lynda Underwood; brother, Rick Gould; and son, Troy Andrew Carter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 12:00 noon, at Taylorsville 19 Ward, 2030 West Chateau Drive (5225 S), where a viewing will be held prior to services, 10-11:45 a.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
